Further Description:

1182263470salperton_onwater.jpg Many of our owners utilise modern technology to keep in touch with their project between visits:

Daily photographs from a fixed camera
Digital images by email
Live Website with up to three webcams
Video conferencing
Customers usually develop confidence in the yard during their first meeting and, as a result, have often reduced their planned number of visits during construction to two or three

Being in a different time zone from the Northern hemisphere, we have found that questions raised during construction are sent overnight to the designers and owner’s representative and a reply is back in New Zealand ready to start work next day with no lost time.

DELIVERY VOYAGE
It is usual for an engineering or electrical Alloy staff member to join the owner's crew for the first leg of a delivery voyage. This helps the crew to become totally familiar with the yacht's systems and provides valuable feedback to the yard on many facets of the yacht's performance.

SERVICE
The Company employs a full time Service Manager who keeps in touch with our fleet as they travel to all corners of the earth. He is available to answer questions, process requests for spare parts and to liaise with our technical departments should the need arise. This helps to ensure the smooth running of the vessel.

1182263470TiaraLaunch_Trial4.jpg The 54m (178ft) sloop Tiara is the longest pleasure vessel ever launched in New Zealand.

She was the 29th yacht launched by Alloy Yachts in the narrow Henderson Creek adjacent to the factory which has a maximum depth at high Spring tide of 3.8m

As successive yachts have become larger the launching process has required carefully engineered solutions.

Tiara was launched on 10th March 2004. She has a draft of 5.2m (17ft ) with her centerboard raised and a beam of 11m (36ft). She displaces 430 tonnes.

In the period prior to the launch, the yacht sat on boxed cradles which provided buoyancy. Shortly before launching she was raised by jacks onto a custom Alloy Yachts designed modular trailer with 128 steerable wheels. Two days before launch the yacht was hauled clear of the shed by two loaders. Additional buoyancy was then provided by two 35m (115ft) tube pontoons each 3m (10ft) in diameter bolted on each side of the cradle and two box pontoons 9m (30ft ) long and 6m (20ft) wide located fore and aft. All up the weight was 550 tonnes.

After launch, the yacht was towed by tug to a dry dock in the City then floated off to motor to her berth for the rig to be stepped and commissioning to be completed.

1182263470uc3.jpg PRODUCTION
Alloy Yachts are focused on producing custom aluminium sailing yachts and motoryachts from 30m to 72m and are recognised worldwide for high standards of workmanship and attention to detail.

By the end of 2006, the yard had built 32 yachts, the largest being the 54m (178ft) sloop Tiara, launched in 2004.

FABRICATION
Alloy Yachts' key objective is to produce yachts of the highest quality and integrity. To achieve this the Company has designed and developed many components which are unique to Alloy Yachts. An exceptionally high proportion of the completed yacht is produced in house. This allows close monitoring and testing for quality.

1182263470custombits.jpg QUALITY
The systems required for the production of these components are audited by Bureau Veritas Quality International to ensure compliance to ISO 9000:2000 standards.

The Company has also achieved an extremely high level of on-time delivery while meeting contract requirements such as noise and vibration levels. Procedures have been introduced to test generators, engines, refrigeration and air conditioning in the factory before launch using a water recirculating system which reproduces sea level pressure.

Prior to launching, management and staff live aboard for two nights. All domestic systems are checked to ensure conformity with the specification before the yacht is launched.

It is normal for Alloy Yachts to undergo the measured mile and other engine and manoeuvering tests on the day of launch. Typically the mast is stepped the following day. Handover to the owner is usually within eight weeks after launching.

Every yacht undergoes a post audit review ensuring that quality continues to improve. This is demonstrated by the low level of warranty claims which typically cost Alloy less than 1% of the contract price.

It is usual for an Alloy technical staff member to sail with the yacht on the first leg of its maiden voyage when it leaves New Zealand.
